Prelims Strategy

Effective Prelims strategy for Reading Comprehension requires systematic skill development and strategic time management. Begin by reading questions before the passage to identify specific information to focus on during reading.

This targeted approach saves time and improves accuracy. Develop active reading habits by mentally summarizing each paragraph and identifying main ideas, supporting details, and logical transitions. Practice the elimination technique systematically - remove obviously wrong options first, then evaluate remaining choices against passage content.

Pay special attention to qualifier words (always, never, some, most, only) as they often determine answer correctness. For time management, allocate 2-3 minutes for reading passages up to 250 words and 4-5 minutes for longer passages.

Spend 1-1.5 minutes per question, moving on if stuck rather than losing time. Build vocabulary through contextual learning rather than rote memorization, focusing on words commonly used in governance, policy, and academic contexts.

Practice with diverse passage themes including science, economics, governance, environment, and social issues to develop broad comprehension abilities. Avoid bringing external knowledge - base answers solely on passage content.

Regular mock tests under timed conditions help develop the speed-accuracy balance crucial for exam success.
