Chronological Order — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
To excel in chronological order questions for CSAT, a multi-pronged prelims strategy is essential. Firstly, build a robust vocabulary of temporal markers and transition words. Create flashcards or a personal dictionary for terms like 'subsequently', 'consequently', 'prior to', 'meanwhile', 'thereafter'.
Secondly, practice identifying the 'anchor sentences' – the most likely opening and closing statements. The opening often introduces a general topic or initial event, while the closing provides a summary or final outcome.
Thirdly, focus on forming logical pairs. Look for noun-pronoun references, cause-effect links, or problem-solution structures. If sentence (X) introduces 'a new policy', look for sentence (Y) that refers to 'this policy' or 'the policy'.
Fourthly, utilize the options effectively. Once you've identified a strong pair or an anchor sentence, immediately check the options to eliminate those that don't match. This significantly narrows down your choices.
Finally, always read your chosen sequence to ensure it flows coherently and makes logical sense. This verification step is crucial for catching subtle errors. Remember, time management in CSAT is key, so practice these steps under timed conditions.
