Prelims Strategy

Focus on systematic pattern recognition rather than memorizing specific patterns. Start with basic direct substitution and mathematical operation patterns before progressing to complex mixed patterns.

Develop strong mental arithmetic skills through daily practice of calculations involving squares, cubes, and basic operations. Create a pattern identification checklist: check for direct multiplication/division, addition/subtraction, digit-based operations, positional changes, and sequential patterns.

Practice time-bound solving with a target of 1-2 minutes per question. Use the elimination method when stuck - if a pattern doesn't work for all given examples, immediately move to the next possibility.

Memorize common mathematical sequences (squares up to 25², cubes up to 10³, prime numbers up to 100) for quick recognition. Develop verification habits - always test identified patterns with at least two examples before applying to the question.

For mixed patterns, practice separating examples into groups based on position or number properties. Build a mental repository of common traps and calculation errors to avoid during the exam.
