Prelims Strategy

For CSAT Prelims, the strategy for Number Series must be two-pronged: rapid pattern identification and accurate calculation under time pressure. Firstly, build a strong foundation by memorizing squares up to 30, cubes up to 15, and prime numbers up to 100.

This instant recall saves precious seconds. Secondly, adopt a systematic approach like the Vyyuha Series DNA Method: always start by calculating first-level differences. If no clear pattern emerges, calculate second-level differences.

Simultaneously, for rapidly growing series, check ratios. This hierarchical approach prevents aimless guessing. Thirdly, practice extensively with a timer. Aim to solve easy questions within 45-60 seconds and medium ones within 90-120 seconds.

For hard, complex hybrid series, allocate up to 150 seconds, but be prepared to skip if a pattern isn't immediately apparent. Fourthly, utilize elimination strategies by looking at the options. Sometimes, an option might be obviously out of place, or testing an option against a partial pattern can confirm the rule.

Finally, maintain an error log to identify your common mistakes and the pattern types you struggle with, focusing your revision on those areas. Remember, CSAT is about qualifying, so prioritize accuracy over attempting every single question.
