Prelims Strategy

Master alphabet series through systematic position value memorization and pattern recognition techniques. Focus on the ALPS Method (Assign positions, Look for patterns, Predict next term, Select answer) as your primary approach.

Memorize key position values: A=1, E=5, J=10, O=15, T=20, Z=26 for quick reference. Practice identifying common patterns instantly: consecutive (A,B,C,D), alternate (A,C,E,G), every third (A,D,G,J), and reverse sequences (Z,Y,X,W).

Develop speed through timed practice - target 20-30 seconds for basic patterns, 30-45 seconds for intermediate, maximum 60 seconds for complex mixed alphanumeric sequences. Use elimination techniques when uncertain: eliminate obviously wrong options first, then apply pattern logic to remaining choices.

For complex patterns, separate mixed alphanumeric sequences into letter and number components, analyze each independently. Practice reverse positioning (A=26, B=25) for advanced questions. Common traps include position value errors (A=0 instead of A=1), missing multi-step progressions, and calculation mistakes under pressure.

Build accuracy through deliberate practice before focusing on speed - solving 100 questions accurately is better than 200 with errors.
