Mains Strategy

Use this for written data interpretation practice; CSAT is an objective Preliminary examination paper. Start by identifying the chart's categories, series and units, then name the comparison being made. This avoids a discussion of general trends that never answers the requested quantitative question.

Show the values used and the formula for the chosen metric. If two categories have equal absolute gains but different growth rates, explain the different starting denominators. For a combined rate or average, state the weights or explain why the available chart does not provide them. A small calculation table can keep several comparisons readable.

Conclude with the numerical finding and one relevant limitation. The graph may describe a change without identifying its cause, or a coarse scale may restrict precision. Where the visual impression is affected by a nonzero baseline, distinguish the presentation issue from the actual labelled values. A strong answer combines accurate calculation with a clear statement of what the chart does and does not establish.
