Write “whole = 360° = 100%” beside the problem and mark the form of each supplied label. Choose one representation for the calculation instead of switching repeatedly between degrees and percentages. For missing sectors, subtract from the correct full total.

Reduce fractions before multiplying by large amounts. A 72-degree sector is one fifth, so its amount is total/5 and a known sector amount implies a total five times as large. For ratios within the same pie, use angles or percentages directly; the common whole cancels. For a category-to-rest comparison, subtract the category from the whole first.

Check whether an absolute answer is possible with the information supplied. A visible sector alone does not reveal the total number of objects. Use familiar angle fractions to detect an answer on the wrong scale. During review, verify every reverse calculation by substituting the recovered total into the original relationship rather than relying only on the same division performed twice.
