Cube and Dice — Definition

Definition

Cube-and-dice reasoning examines how six faces relate in a three-dimensional object and how those relationships appear after folding, turning or cutting. A cube has six faces, twelve edges and eight vertices; each face has four neighbours and one opposite.

Problems may involve a labelled net, successive rolls, or the number of small cubes carrying paint after subdivision. These tasks require different models. The first step is to identify which information the question supplies and which relationship it asks you to determine, without importing a familiar die convention that has not been stated.
