Mathematical Puzzles — Revision Notes
⚡ 30-Second Revision
Model before solving. Digits use place value; ages share elapsed time; transfers conserve totals; remainders meet every condition; sequences need a rule. Check the requested state and admissible values.
2-Minute Revision
Digit example: a + b = 11 and 9(a − b) = 27 gives 74. Age example: 3x + 12 = 2(x + 12) gives x = 12. Transfer example: initial 42 and 30 produces 36/36 or 48/24 in alternative scenarios. Remainder solutions 32 + 35k first exceed 100 at 102.
5-Minute Revision
Solve each worked example without its formula, then substitute the result into every verbal condition. Explain why 47 reverses the digit-change direction, why 24 is a future rather than present age, why 48 is a post-transfer count, and why 137 satisfies the remainders but is not the least value above 100.
