Prelims Strategy

For CSAT Prelims, the strategy for solution evaluation questions must be swift and systematic. First, read the problem statement and the question carefully to identify the core issue and, crucially, the specific criteria for evaluation (e.

g., 'most sustainable', 'most ethical', 'most cost-effective'). These criteria are your guiding stars. Second, quickly scan the given solutions to get an overview. Third, mentally apply the VYYUHA EVALUATE mnemonic or a simplified version of it to each option.

Don't get bogged down in deep analysis for every single point; instead, look for obvious strengths and weaknesses relative to the stated criteria. Fourth, use elimination techniques: discard options that clearly violate a primary criterion or are demonstrably inferior.

Often, two options will be close; focus your comparative analysis on these. Finally, select the option that best aligns with the weighted criteria (even if weights are implicit). Practice with PYQs (2015-2023) to internalize common scenarios and develop speed.

Aim for 2-3 minutes per question, allocating more time for reading and understanding the problem, and less for the actual comparison once criteria are clear.
