Prelims Strategy

For Prelims preparation, focus on memorizing the key characteristics of different types of moral dilemmas and the systematic approaches for their resolution. Master the DECIDE framework sequence and practice applying it to various scenarios within time constraints.

Develop quick recognition skills for identifying which ethical framework is most appropriate for different types of conflicts - utilitarian for consequence-focused dilemmas, deontological for duty-based conflicts, rights-based for vulnerable population issues, and virtue ethics for character-centered decisions.

Practice elimination techniques by identifying options that ignore stakeholder analysis, oversimplify complex conflicts, or rely on purely personal preferences rather than systematic reasoning. Common traps include choosing utilitarian approaches for all dilemmas (ignoring rights and duties), selecting deontological approaches without considering consequences, and picking virtue ethics when systematic analysis is required.

Focus on contemporary examples from AI ethics, environmental policy, and public health to understand how classical frameworks apply to modern governance challenges. Create quick recall cards for the main features of each ethical framework and practice identifying them in case study scenarios.
