Prelims Strategy

For CSAT Paper-II, ethical reasoning questions primarily appear in the Decision Making and Problem Solving sections. The Vyyuha approach to Prelims strategy emphasizes a two-pronged attack: conceptual clarity and extensive practice.

First, thoroughly understand the core ethical theories (consequentialism, deontology, virtue ethics) and their application. Crucially, internalize Indian constitutional values (Preamble, FR, DPSP, FD) as the primary ethical compass.

Second, practice a wide variety of scenario-based MCQs. When approaching an MCQ, first identify the core ethical dilemma and the key stakeholders. Then, quickly evaluate each option against constitutional morality, rule of law, public interest, and administrative integrity.

Eliminate options that are clearly unethical, illegal, or impractical. Pay close attention to keywords like 'most appropriate,' 'least appropriate,' 'best course of action.' Often, multiple options might seem 'good,' but you must choose the 'best' one that balances competing principles effectively.

Vyyuha's analysis of PYQ trends reveals that questions often test your ability to prioritize conflicting values (e.g., efficiency vs. equity, individual rights vs. collective good). Develop a mental checklist: Is it legal?

Is it ethical? Is it practical? Does it uphold public trust? Does it protect the vulnerable? This systematic approach, combined with time management, will significantly improve your accuracy and speed.

Remember, CSAT ethical questions are not about finding a 'perfect' solution, but the 'most justifiable' one.
