Prelims Strategy

For Prelims, a strong emphasis should be placed on factual accuracy and memorization of key details. Begin by creating timelines for major literary periods (Classical, Medieval, Modern) and associating prominent authors, their seminal works, and the languages they wrote in.

For example, know that Kalidasa wrote in Sanskrit, Tiruvalluvar in Tamil, Tulsidas in Awadhi Hindi, and Premchand in Hindi/Urdu. Master the classification of language families (Indo-Aryan, Dravidian, Sino-Tibetan, Austro-Asiatic) and be able to identify examples for each.

Pay close attention to the Eighth Schedule languages, including the amendments that added them (21st, 71st, 92nd). Understand the core provisions of Articles 343-351, especially Article 343 (official language), 348 (judiciary), 350A (mother tongue instruction), and 351 (promotion of Hindi).

Memorize the names of major literary awards (Jnanpith, Sahitya Akademi) and their recent winners, as well as the criteria for 'Classical Language' status and the six languages that hold it. Use mnemonics and flashcards for quick recall.

Practice MCQs that test matching, chronological order, and constitutional provisions to identify common traps, such as confusing authors or misinterpreting constitutional articles. Focus on the 'who, what, when, where' aspects of literature and language.
