Prelims Strategy
Prepare separate tables for texts, philosophical schools and devotional communities. Do not place a scripture, a commentator and a devotional poet in the same category merely because they are associated with a common tradition. Identify what kind of entity each option names before checking the association.
For darshanas, connect one central concern to each school while remembering that a short label is a revision aid. Nyaya's focus on reasoning should not be swapped with Mimamsa's interpretation of ritual injunctions. Samkhya's purusha–prakriti distinction should not be silently replaced by a generic claim of philosophical monism.
Check the classification criterion in questions using astika and nastika. In this historical context, acceptance of Vedic authority is more precise than “belief in God.” For bhakti, retain Alvars–Vishnu and Nayanars–Shiva.
Finally, distinguish UNESCO recognition dates from the age of a practice. Vedic chanting's 2008 Representative List inscription, following its 2003 proclamation, records modern recognition; it does not date the origin of Vedic oral transmission.
