Sikh Gurus — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, a strong emphasis must be placed on factual accuracy, chronology, and specific attributions. Vyyuha advises aspirants to create a detailed timeline of all ten Gurus, noting their birth/death years, succession order, and 2-3 most significant contributions.
Key areas to focus on include: the founder (Guru Nanak Dev) and his core teachings (Ik Onkar, Naam Japna, Kirat Karni, Vand Chhakna); the Gurus responsible for Gurmukhi script (Guru Angad Dev), Amritsar (Guru Ram Das), Adi Granth compilation (Guru Arjan Dev), Miri-Piri (Guru Hargobind), and Khalsa formation (Guru Gobind Singh).
Special attention should be given to the martyrdoms of Guru Arjan Dev and Guru Tegh Bahadur, understanding the Mughal emperors involved and the reasons for their sacrifices. Memorize the 'Five Ks' and their significance.
Practice identifying the correct Guru for specific social reforms (e.g., Sati, Purdah, Langar). Utilize mnemonics like Vyyuha's 'NANAK'S LEGACY' to recall the Gurus chronologically and their key contributions.
Expect questions that test direct facts, chronological order, and matching Gurus with their specific achievements or historical events.
