Food Culture — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, focus on factual recall related to Indian food culture. Key areas include: 1. Historical Influences: Identify specific ingredients or cooking techniques introduced by Mughals, Portuguese, or British.
2. Regional Staples: Match regions (North, South, East, West, Northeast) with their primary staple grains, cooking mediums, and signature dishes. 3. Religious Dietary Practices: Understand the core principles of Hindu (vegetarianism, satvik, prasada), Jain (ahimsa, avoidance of root vegetables), Islamic (halal), and Sikh (langar) food practices.
4. Festival Foods: Associate major festivals with their characteristic foods and their symbolic meanings. 5. Key Concepts: Familiarize yourself with terms like Ayurveda, Ritu-carya, Doshas, Dum Pukht.
6. Current Affairs: Be aware of recent government initiatives related to food, such as millet promotion, FSSAI regulations, or GI tags for specific food products. Practice MCQs that test your ability to differentiate between similar-sounding concepts or identify correct pairings.
Pay attention to 'not correct' or 'incorrect' questions.
