Cotton Textiles — Definition

Definition
Cotton textiles are products made from cotton fibre through processes such as spinning, weaving or knitting, followed where required by dyeing, printing and finishing. Cotton names the material, not a single production technique.
Cotton cloth may be handloom or powerloom, plain or patterned, and made from yarns of different fineness. Understanding it requires separating fibre preparation, yarn properties, fabric construction and later treatment.
These distinctions explain why two cotton products can differ considerably in appearance, performance, cultural technique and environmental effects despite sharing the same basic fibre.
