Mixed Heritage Sites — Definition

Definition
A mixed World Heritage property is recognised for both cultural and natural heritage values within the UNESCO World Heritage framework. The category depends on the basis of inscription, not merely on the coexistence of monuments and vegetation.
Khangchendzonga National Park in Sikkim, inscribed in 2016, illustrates the relationship between sacred landscape associations and natural values. Managing such a property requires attention to both dimensions and their interaction.
Mixed status should also be distinguished from a cultural landscape, a domestic national-park designation and recognition of an intangible heritage element.
