Prelims Strategy

Attach each date to an institution and event. The Asiatic Society's 1784 foundation is not the Indian Museum's 1814 foundation. The National Museum's 1949 inauguration is not the opening of its Janpath building phase in 1960. Similar institutional names should not lead to exchanging Kolkata and New Delhi.

For object-history questions, distinguish ownership records from excavation context and from dating evidence. A documented chain of owners does not necessarily establish where an object was found or when it was made. Examine what the inscription, material and contextual evidence can separately support.

For museum functions, identify the objective. A digital image can aid access while limited display reduces exposure of a sensitive object; neither establishes provenance or removes storage requirements. ICOM's 2022 definition is professional guidance, not an Indian Act or an object licence. When a question offers image counts as proof of conservation or learning, recognise that the statistic measures an output and that the claimed outcome requires additional evidence.
