India-China Border — Definition

Definition

The India–China border question concerns an unsettled boundary and the management of peace along the Line of Actual Control. The LAC is not interchangeable with an agreed international boundary, and differing perceptions can create friction even when both sides refer to the same term.

Border management therefore includes communication, confidence-building arrangements and measures to address particular confrontations, while boundary settlement requires a separate political and diplomatic process.

A local disengagement or patrolling arrangement can reduce immediate risk without resolving the entire territorial question. Examination answers should distinguish those levels and attach dates to developments instead of inferring present deployments from older statements.
