Economic Framework
Build the topic as a diagnostic chart with four rows.
Unit of analysis: distinguish a person's belief, an organisation's political claim and a violent incident. These are different kinds of evidence. A community is internally diverse, so a spokesperson's claim cannot establish the preferences of all its members.
Political mechanism: identify homogenisation within the group, stereotyping of other groups, a narrative of incompatible interests and a demand for unequal power. Apply the mechanism to a hypothetical service dispute: is the claim about unequal provision, or does it assert that another religion's members cannot be equal citizens?
Constitutional standard: connect Article 14 with equal protection, Article 15 with prohibited discrimination and Article 25 with religious freedom subject to its stated limits. The Preamble's explicit secular wording dates to the Forty-second Amendment Act, 1976; the underlying rights were not created for the first time then.
Administrative response: prevention addresses distrust and misinformation; protection addresses an immediate threat to people; repair addresses investigation, relief and restored access to livelihoods. Each stage has a different purpose. A fall in recorded violence alone cannot establish that discriminatory exclusion has ended.
NCERT Democratic Politics II, Chapter 3, provides the conceptual reference. Its discussion of Partition supplies historical context, while its treatment of everyday prejudice shows why the topic extends beyond riots. The chart should end with equal citizenship as the outcome against which institutions are assessed.
