Elder Abuse and Protection — Revision Notes

Updated 19 Oct 2026

⚡ 30-Second Revision

Protect dignity and agency. Abuse can be financial or emotional without visible injury. Section 23: conditions matter. Elderline assists; competent forums decide. Reports are not prevalence.

2-Minute Revision

Elder protection combines prevention, support and specific legal remedies. The 2007 Act addresses maintenance, welfare, conditional transfers and abandonment through distinct provisions. Older people should be heard rather than treated as incapable because of age. Elderline can connect people with assistance, but a referral does not itself determine liability. Evaluate verified follow-through and distinguish changes in reporting from changes in underlying harm.

5-Minute Revision

Classify hypothetical unauthorised pension use, consensual financial assistance and temporary caregiver absence with agreed support. Explain which further facts matter before a finding. Calculate the increase from 200 to 300 reports, then identify two non-prevalence explanations. Finally, map a support referral, a legal decision and continuing follow-up as separate stages.
