In-situ Conservation — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, a strong factual foundation is paramount. Begin by memorizing the definitions and distinguishing features of different types of Protected Areas (National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Biosphere Reserves, Conservation/Community Reserves).
Pay close attention to the legal basis for each (WPA 1972). Create flashcards for key government initiatives like Project Tiger, Project Elephant, and Project Snow Leopard, noting their launch years, objectives, and significant achievements (e.
g., tiger population figures). Crucially, keep abreast of current affairs related to new PA declarations, Ramsar sites, and any significant policy updates from MoEFCC. Focus on the schedules of the WPA (especially Schedule I species) and the constitutional articles (48A, 51A(g)).
Practice MCQs that test comparisons between different PA types and the objectives of various conservation projects. A good strategy is to create a mental map of India's major PAs and their associated iconic species.
Remember, precision in facts and figures is often tested.
