Environment (Protection) Act, 1986	1986	While not an 'amendment' to a specific article, the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, is the umbrella legislation providing for the protection and improvement of environment and for matters connected therewith. It empowers the Central Government to take all necessary measures for protecting and improving the quality of the environment and preventing, controlling, and abating environmental pollution. This includes setting standards for emission or discharge of environmental pollutants from various sources.	Provided comprehensive legal framework for environmental protection, including air quality. Enabled the government to set national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS), regulate industrial emissions, and enforce pollution control measures. It consolidated powers under previous acts like the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981	1987 (Amendment)	The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, was enacted to provide for the prevention, control and abatement of air pollution and for the establishment of Boards with a view to carrying out the aforesaid purposes. An amendment in 1987 strengthened its provisions, including giving more powers to State Pollution Control Boards and increasing penalties for non-compliance.	Established the Central and State Pollution Control Boards with powers to lay down standards for air quality and emissions, inspect industrial units, and take legal action against polluters. The 1987 amendment made it more stringent and effective in tackling air pollution, making it a foundational legal instrument for regulating air pollutant sources.
