Definition

The Defence Intelligence Agency is an Indian defence-intelligence institution whose public role includes coordination across the armed services' intelligence wings and integrated inputs for higher defence management.

Government records place its constitution in 2002 following recommendations in 2001. Its assessment function should be distinguished from policy decisions, combat formations and criminal adjudication.

Integration means examining how relevant information and expertise fit together, including differences and uncertainties. It is more than collecting reports in one place and does not make repeated versions of one source independent evidence.
