2-Minute Revision

To examine an attitude–behaviour gap, specify the attitude object and the behaviour at comparable levels. General approval of environmental protection does not directly predict use of one inconvenient collection centre.

A hypothetical resident may support recycling but lack an accessible service. Conversely, a resident may comply because of a penalty without privately approving the policy. Assess attitude strength, situational pressure, opportunity and the relevant action.

A survey of successful users can omit people blocked before participation. The practical response follows the diagnosed cause: information for mistaken beliefs, reliable access for an access barrier, and appropriate institutional incentives for competing pressures.

Behaviour supplies evidence about attitude, but it is not a transparent reading of private belief.

Suppose seventy residents support a meeting but twenty-five attend. List three competing explanations without accusing respondents of dishonesty. Design one observation to distinguish timing from lack of interest. Explain why changing attendance after rescheduling does not necessarily measure an equal change in attitude.
