National Education Policy 2020 Inclusive Education Provisions
July 2020
NEP 2020 introduced comprehensive provisions for inclusive education, mandating that children with disabilities be included in mainstream education with appropriate support systems. The policy emphasizes early identification of learning difficulties, provision of assistive technologies, and training of teachers in inclusive pedagogy. This represents a significant shift from segregated special education to inclusive mainstream education, aligning with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The policy also addresses other vulnerable groups including economically disadvantaged children, first-generation learners, and children from minority communities through targeted interventions and flexible learning pathways.
