Philosophical Foundation — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims preparation, focus on memorizing key concepts and their originators: Weber's three authority types (traditional, charismatic, rational-legal), Plato's philosopher-king, Aristotle's common good and practical wisdom, Gandhi's seva and sarvodaya, and Perry's four PSM dimensions.
Create comparison charts between different philosophical approaches, noting their key features, strengths, and limitations. Practice identifying which philosophical tradition supports specific principles like political neutrality (Weber), merit-based selection (Plato), or inclusive governance (Gandhi).
Pay attention to contemporary applications - how classical concepts apply to modern reforms like Mission Karmayogi, lateral entry, or digital governance. Common traps include confusing Weber's authority types, mixing up Platonic and Aristotelian concepts, or misunderstanding the relationship between philosophical foundations and constitutional provisions.
Use elimination techniques by identifying obviously wrong options that contradict basic philosophical principles or confuse different thinkers' ideas.
