Hinduism — Revision Notes
⚡ 30-Second Revision
- Six darshanas: Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Samkhya, Yoga, Mimamsa, Vedanta.
- Orthodox classification concerns Vedic authority, not one uniform theology.
- Alvars–Vishnu; Nayanars–Shiva.
- 2003/2008: UNESCO proclamation/inscription of Vedic chanting.
- A normative teaching is not a census of actual social behaviour.
2-Minute Revision
Shared texts and inherited practices coexist with different arguments about knowledge, reality and liberation. Philosophical classifications require their own criteria. Bhakti traditions add regional languages and communities to the account. A historical explanation distinguishes what texts prescribe, what schools argue and what people practise in specific settings.
5-Minute Revision
Make three columns headed text, school and devotional community. Place Upanishads, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Alvars and Nayanars correctly. Explain why accepting Vedic authority does not settle every question about a creator. End with two sentences distinguishing an ethical ideal from evidence about historical social practice.
Vyyuha Quick Recall
T–I–P–C = Texts, Ideas, Practices, Communities. A–V and N–S = Alvars–Vishnu, Nayanars–Shiva; use these as associations, not complete descriptions.
