Vedic Period — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Prepare four text-function pairs and test every element of a matching option. A correct description attached to the wrong Veda remains wrong. Keep Brahmana texts separate from the Brahmin social category, and distinguish the Upanishads' philosophical concerns from administrative records.
Build an early-versus-later table using geography, economy, polity and social order. Use tendencies rather than invented absolutes. An option saying pastoral activity was important is different from one denying cultivation. A statement about assemblies does not establish universal voting or a modern legislature.
Treat dates as ranges and retain BCE ordering: 1500 BCE precedes 1000 BCE. Do not assign the same exact year to the composition of every layer. On a map, connect the north-west with the later Ganga-Yamuna focus.
When a question cites a prescribed hierarchy, ask whether the answer concerns the text's norm or actual social practice. Reject an inference that a prescriptive passage enumerates every settlement. Check similarly whether an artefact supports a specific material claim or is being made to prove an entire social system.
