Definition
Muhammad Ghori was the Ghurid ruler whose late twelfth-century campaigns helped establish the conditions for enduring Turkish rule in parts of northern India. His career includes defeat at the first battle of Tarain in 1191, victory over Prithviraj Chauhan at the second in 1192, and victory over Jayachandra at Chandawar in 1194.
Trusted commanders, especially Qutbuddin Aibak, consolidated the acquired positions. Ghori must be distinguished from the earlier Mahmud of Ghazni and from Aibak, whose independent rule began after Ghori's death in 1206.
A sequence of conquests is not the same as an instantly completed Sultanate administration.
