Significance and Impact — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Identify the parent movement before answering a generic question about “significance and impact.” Here it is Non-Cooperation, launched in 1920 and suspended after Chauri Chaura in February 1922. Do not attach the Dandi March or the Quit India resolution to this sequence merely because Gandhi led all three campaigns.
When using the cloth-import example, distinguish the amount of decline from the percentage decline. ₹102 crore minus ₹57 crore equals ₹45 crore; dividing by the initial ₹102 crore gives approximately 44 per cent. The final value is about 56 per cent of the initial value, not the percentage fall. Also distinguish a recorded change from a claim that one cause explains it completely.
For participation statements, check whether they describe a national programme or a particular regional interpretation. Wider mobilisation does not establish identical demands everywhere. Finally, suspension concerns the organised campaign; it does not mean that all political networks, grievances or nationalist activity vanished at the same moment.
