⚡ 30-Second Revision

Revision checked 17 October 2026.

  • Identify stock, flow and renewal timescale.
  • Renewable does not mean unlimited.
  • Quantity, quality and access differ.
  • Total use = intensity × activity.
  • Assess the whole life cycle and affected users.

2-Minute Revision

A resource is useful within physical, technological and social conditions. Local withdrawal can exceed renewal even for a renewable resource. Efficiency reduces input per service, but growing activity can raise total use. Reuse and recycling have different processes and limits. Resource policy should account for downstream users, future users and environmental effects outside the narrow project account.

5-Minute Revision

Original assessment drill: A district proposes additional groundwater pumping to solve unreliable household supply. Ask whether the problem is insufficient aquifer availability, water quality, distribution losses or unequal access. Then identify how pumping could affect other users and future availability. Compare an extraction measure with a service-efficiency measure using indicators matched to each. Do not assume the largest supply project addresses the actual constraint.
