Prelims Strategy

Use three columns for institution, event and organisational purpose. Enter AITUC as a national trade-union federation founded at Bombay in 1920. Do not substitute a landmark associated with communist or Congress Socialist Party history merely because all belong to the wider history of the Left. Separate a founder’s participation from the specific office asked about.

Read evidence questions by identifying the document type. A conference resolution establishes an adopted demand; it does not establish a contract or a statutory entitlement. An affiliated-membership table gives a defined organisational constituency, not a national labour-force census. International representation shows participation in a forum, not automatic implementation of its standards.

In statements about nationalism, allow both shared political objectives and distinct labour interests. The fact that nationalist leaders participated does not prove that the federation was a department of the Congress. Likewise, Indian ownership of an enterprise does not remove the possibility of a wage dispute. Match the scope of each conclusion to the evidence supplied rather than treating an important institution as a synonym for the entire movement.
