National Technical Research Organisation — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims preparation on NTRO, focus on memorizing key facts: establishment year (2004), reporting structure (PMO/NSA), core capabilities (TECHINT, SIGINT, IMINT, cyber intelligence), and coordination mechanisms.
Pay special attention to distinguishing NTRO from other intelligence agencies - create a comparison chart highlighting unique features of each agency. Common traps include confusing NTRO's mandate with other agencies, incorrect reporting structures, and mixing up establishment dates.
Use elimination techniques by first identifying what NTRO does NOT do (human intelligence operations, direct law enforcement, foreign covert operations) before selecting correct options. Practice questions that combine NTRO with current affairs, particularly cyber security incidents and border monitoring.
Remember that UPSC often tests NTRO in the context of inter-agency coordination and modern security challenges rather than as a standalone topic.
