Intelligence Agencies — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Focus on memorizing specific facts about each agency: establishment years, parent ministries, key mandates, and legal frameworks. Create a comparison chart of all agencies with their primary functions, jurisdictions, and coordination roles.
Pay special attention to post-26/11 reforms, particularly NIA's powers and MAC's functions. Memorize constitutional articles (especially Article 355) and key legislation (Intelligence Organisations Act 1985, NIA Act 2008/2019).
Practice elimination techniques by understanding the distinct roles of each agency - IB (internal), RAW (external), NTRO (technical), NIA (investigation), DIA (military). Focus on recent developments like NATGRID, cyber intelligence initiatives, and international cooperation agreements.
Common traps include confusing agency jurisdictions and coordination mechanisms, so practice questions that test these distinctions. Use mnemonics for remembering agency functions and establishment chronology.
