Prelims Strategy
For Prelims preparation, focus on memorizing specific provisions of SPG Act 1988, particularly Sections 3, 4, 5, and 14. Remember the exact year of establishment (1985) and Act enactment (1988). The 2019 amendments are crucial - memorize that only serving PM and immediate family at official residence get SPG cover now.
Create a comparison chart between SPG, NSG, and CRPF covering formation year, mandate, legal framework, and current roles. Pay attention to constitutional basis under Article 355 and distinguish it from other emergency provisions.
Common traps include confusing SPG establishment with Rajiv Gandhi's assassination (it was Indira Gandhi's) and mixing up post-2019 security arrangements for former PMs (CRPF Z+, not NSG). Practice elimination techniques by understanding that SPG has a very specific, narrow mandate unlike broader security forces.
Focus on factual recall of training location (Hyderabad), organizational strength (approximately 3,000), and coordination mechanisms with intelligence agencies.
