Prelims Strategy

For NEET prelims, a strong conceptual understanding combined with quick and accurate numerical problem-solving is key for electrical resistance. First, ensure you thoroughly understand Ohm's Law (V=IRV=IR) and the formula for resistance based on material properties (R=ρL/AR = \rho L/A).

Pay close attention to units, especially converting milliamperes to amperes or centimeters to meters. Practice problems involving stretching or compressing wires, as these are common traps where students forget the conservation of volume and the consequent change in cross-sectional area.

Memorize the temperature dependence formula (RT=R0[1+α(TT0)]R_T = R_0 [1 + \alpha(T - T_0)]) and practice solving for α\alpha or RTR_T. Be clear on the definitions of Ohmic vs. non-Ohmic materials and the difference between resistance and resistivity.

For conceptual questions, visualize the electron flow and collisions. Always check the options carefully, as distractors often arise from common calculation errors or partial understanding of the concepts.
