Prelims Strategy

For NEET prelims, mastering reactance requires a two-pronged approach: strong conceptual understanding and accurate formula application. Firstly, ensure you clearly differentiate between inductive and capacitive reactance, especially their frequency dependence (XLfX_L \propto f, XC1/fX_C \propto 1/f) and phase relationships (voltage leads current in L, current leads voltage in C).

Use mnemonics like 'ELI the ICE man' to remember phase. Secondly, practice numerical problems extensively. Pay close attention to units (mH to H, \mu F to F) and powers of ten. When solving, always write down the given values, the relevant formula, and then substitute carefully.

For conceptual questions, think about the behavior of inductors and capacitors at DC (f=0f=0) and very high frequencies (ff \to \infty). Trap options often involve swapping the frequency dependence or phase relationships between inductors and capacitors.

Always double-check your calculations, especially with π\pi and exponents, as small errors can lead to incorrect options.
