For numerical problems, always identify the given quantities and what needs to be found. Pay close attention to units (seconds, minutes, hours, years) and ensure consistency throughout your calculations.

For questions involving multiple half-lives, using the $(1/2)^n$ formula is often quicker than the exponential form. For conceptual questions, remember that half-life is intrinsic to the nucleus and unaffected by external conditions.
