Water Resources — Revision Notes
⚡ 30-Second Revision
Revision checked 17 October 2026.
- Water resources include quantity, quality, timing and access.
- Surface and groundwater can connect.
- Storage change = inputs − outputs.
- Withdrawal differs from consumption.
- Diagnose the actual local constraint.
2-Minute Revision
Choose a basin or aquifer boundary suited to the question. Keep flows and storage changes in one period. National averages do not describe every local unit. Storage can improve seasonal reliability but cannot alone solve every quality or distribution failure. Local withdrawal savings need a basin account because return flows and later use affect the result.
5-Minute Revision
Original planning drill: A town reports adequate source storage but irregular household service. Identify the evidence needed to distinguish treatment capacity, distribution losses, scheduling and unequal access from source scarcity. Then assess a proposal to reduce irrigation withdrawals upstream: ask how consumption and return flows would change. Explain why the two problems need different indicators even though both are described casually as water shortages.
