Historical Foundations — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, focus on memorizing specific dates, acts, and provisions: Government of India Acts (1858, 1909, 1919, 1935) with their key features, Constituent Assembly composition (389 reduced to 299), key personalities and their roles, foreign sources with specific borrowings, and important committees.
Create chronological charts and comparison tables for different acts. Practice elimination techniques by understanding the historical sequence and logical connections between events. Common traps include confusing provisions of different acts, mixing up personalities and their roles, and incorrect attribution of borrowed features to wrong countries.
Use mnemonics for remembering foreign sources: 'BIUCAGS' (Britain-parliamentary, Ireland-directive principles, US-fundamental rights, Canada-federalism, Australia-concurrent list, Germany-emergency, South Africa-amendment).
Focus on factual accuracy and avoid conceptual confusion by understanding the historical context behind each provision.
