Supreme Court — UPSC Importance

UPSC Importance Analysis

The Supreme Court is central to GS II's study of constitutional institutions, judicial review and access to justice. Objective preparation also depends on separating its several jurisdictions. A case beginning in the Court, an appeal, a review of its own decision and a presidential reference are not the same procedural route.

Prepare Articles 32,131,136,137,141,142 and 143 as a connected map. Each provides a different function or power, with conditions that matter. Article 131 concerns specified intergovernmental disputes involving legal rights; Article 32 concerns enforcement of Part III rights. The existence of both illustrates why original jurisdiction cannot be reduced to a single category.

For Mains, connect independence with accountability, remedies and institutional capacity. Explain how a power supports constitutional governance and where its use requires careful reasoning. Avoid unsupported current judge counts, invented case holdings or a numerical PYQ frequency. The most useful preparation traces who approaches the Court, under which provision, for what purpose and with what legal effect. That method makes institutional facts usable in analysis.
