Attorney General — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims preparation on Attorney General, focus on memorizing Article 76 provisions, especially appointment authority (President), qualifications (same as SC judge), tenure (President's pleasure), and functions.
Create comparison tables with Solicitor General and Advocate General, noting differences in appointment, tenure, and jurisdiction. Remember key facts: right of audience in all courts, participation in Parliament without voting rights, restrictions on private practice.
Practice questions on appointment process - many students confuse whether CJI consultation is mandatory (it's not). Focus on current Attorney General's name and recent high-profile cases. Use elimination techniques by remembering that Attorney General cannot have fixed tenure (eliminates options suggesting 5-year terms) and cannot be completely prohibited from private practice (eliminates judge-like restrictions).
Pay attention to constitutional vs statutory posts - Attorney General is constitutional, Solicitor General is statutory.
