For Prelims preparation on President's Rule, focus on memorizing specific constitutional articles (356, 355, 357), amendment numbers (38th, 42nd, 44th) and their provisions, duration limits (6 months initial, 3 years maximum), and approval requirements (simple majority, two months).
Create a comparison chart distinguishing President's Rule from National Emergency and Financial Emergency - this is frequently tested. Memorize landmark judgment names and years: S.R. Bommai (1994), Rameshwar Prasad (2006), with their key holdings.
Practice elimination techniques by understanding common traps: confusing approval timelines (two months, not one), maximum duration (three years, not two), and the fact that Governor's recommendation is not mandatory.
Focus on factual recall of first imposition (PEPSU, 1951), longest duration (Punjab, 1987-1992), and states with frequent impositions. Pay attention to recent current affairs connections, especially Supreme Court interventions in state political crises.
Use mnemonics for remembering the sequence: Governor's report → President's proclamation → Parliamentary approval within 2 months → Extensions with fresh approval. Common wrong options include statements about automatic assembly dissolution (it can be suspended), immunity from judicial review (overturned by Bommai), and mandatory Governor recommendation (President can act on other information).
