For Prelims preparation on NGT, focus on memorizing key facts: establishment date (October 18, 2010), seven laws under jurisdiction (Water Act 1974, Air Act 1981, Environment Protection Act 1986, Forest Conservation Act 1980, Public Liability Insurance Act 1991, Biological Diversity Act 2002, NGT Act 2010), composition (judicial and expert members), original jurisdiction threshold (Rs.

5 crores), and appeal mechanism (directly to Supreme Court). Pay special attention to what is NOT included in NGT's jurisdiction - Wildlife Protection Act, Indian Forest Act are major exclusions. Remember the three environmental principles: polluter pays, precautionary principle, and sustainable development.

Practice elimination techniques by understanding common traps: confusing establishment year with Act passage year, assuming NGT covers all environmental laws, thinking appeals go to High Courts. Current affairs integration is crucial - recent NGT orders on air pollution, stubble burning, river cleaning should be linked to basic concepts.

Create mnemonics for the seven laws under jurisdiction. Focus on comparative questions distinguishing NGT from regular courts and other tribunals.
