Prelims Strategy

First identify the setting: educational admission, public appointment, promotion or identification of a class. Then locate the corresponding provision. Article 16(4A)'s SC/ST promotion scope is a common source of error in an OBC question. Article 15(5)'s institutional scope and minority exception likewise require attention rather than a blanket claim about private institutions.

Keep amendment dates and functions paired. The First Amendment added 15(4); the Ninety-third Act is dated 2005; the One Hundred and Second added constitutional NCBC provisions in 2018; the One Hundred and Fifth in 2021 addresses State and Union territory identification for their purposes. Do not infer a universal reservation percentage from these enabling clauses.

In eligibility scenarios, check whether the programme uses the Central or relevant State list and what further conditions apply. A certificate can be valid for one purpose without establishing another entitlement. Distinguish the commission's constitutional role from the particular authority issuing an admission or recruitment decision.
