Child Labour Prohibition — Definition
Definition
Child-labour prohibition restricts employment or permitted work according to the child's age, activity and applicable legal conditions. India's amended labour statute distinguishes children from adolescents and applies different prohibitions to them.
The general child prohibition has narrowly conditioned family and artist exceptions; these are not unrestricted permissions based on parental consent or a family label. Article 24's constitutional hazardous-employment protection and the statutory framework must also be distinguished.
A sound analysis checks the facts against the relevant provision, including education-related conditions, before concluding whether a particular situation is permitted.
