Mixed Heritage Sites — Revision Notes

Updated 19 Oct 2026

⚡ 30-Second Revision

  • Mixed = recognised cultural + natural values.
  • Khangchendzonga: Sikkim, 2016.
  • Criteria: (iii), (vi), (vii), (x).
  • Cultural landscape is not automatically mixed.
  • Visitation ≠ conservation condition.

2-Minute Revision

Mixed status follows the basis of World Heritage inscription. Khangchendzonga combines sacred cultural associations with natural values. Distinguish it from domestic protection categories and intangible heritage recognition. Management should examine linked effects on communities, access and ecology, using indicators that measure the protected values.

5-Minute Revision

Compare a cultural monument surrounded by woodland with a property inscribed under both cultural and natural criteria. Explain why their appearances do not determine their categories. Then list cultural and ecological evidence needed to assess a new visitor facility at the mixed property.

Vyyuha Quick Recall
