Prelims Strategy

Build a provision map organised by function: rights, policy directives, institutional powers, remedies and amendment. Identify whether a statement concerns an enforceable claim, a governing principle or an enabling power. Article 37 does not make Directive Principles irrelevant merely because courts do not directly enforce them as such.

For amendment questions, distinguish the special parliamentary majority from State ratification where the proviso to Article 368 requires it. The relevant parliamentary test uses both the total membership and members present and voting; substituting one for the other changes the rule. State ratification is attached to specified constitutional matters, not assumed for each amendment.

For federal questions, identify the subject and the source of authority before relying on a general description of India as federal. For remedies, retain Article 32's link to Part III rights and Article 226's wider wording. A familiar institutional name does not settle jurisdiction. Read the operative condition and the person or body empowered to act, then test each statement against that precise relationship.
